(Relatively) on time for once! - Here's the roundup of ColdFusion Framework News
for July, grouped by Framework in alphabetical order for your convenience... (I
know, some articles have been posted more than once - I was in two minds what to
do with items that covered more than one framework...)
CFframeworks June round up

Slightly later than usual but here is a round up of all the ColdFusion related
  framewoorks news in June.

  Sammy Larbi has released
  version
0.2.5 of the Cfrails frameworks. It includes a number of changes including
Spry integration for form validation, improvements to database support and
  more documentation.

A busy month for Joe Rinehart who launched
  Model-Glue:Flex,
described as "a conceptual port of Model-Glue implicit invocation framework to
ActionScript 3 and Flex" and also
  version
  2.0.304 of Model Glue.

  Luis F. Majano
  celebrated
the 4th of July (Yes I know this is the June update) by releasing a
ColdBox dictionary to give you function and scope insight for CFEclipse, this
  rocks check it out.

  Farcry

  Bowers and the Daemon team.

Russ Jhonson has created some very useful
  fusebox5
templates for Brian Rinaldi's Illudium code generator. There is also a
  handy
  screencast
  of it in action.

  Speaking of Brian Rinaldi, in
  part2
of his series on Objects and compositions in CFCs he covers ColdSpring
  integration.

Another mention for Luis F. Majano who gives us yet
  more
  documentation for ColdBox.

Doug Boude shows us how to use
Gobal
ColdSpring Configuration beans.

At the end of May
John

at the Online ColdFusion Meetup group.

  The Fusebox website has
been relaunched with a Beta of
  Fusebox
  5.5 due soon.

  Finally Team Mach-ii
have been assuring us not only is
  Mach-II

released a brand new website and

  1.5 (beta) of the framework.

Below is a rather busy few weeks in the frameworks world. I've been a little
ill so this is why this post is rather late this month and it's also why I've
paraphrased a lot from remotesynth,
I hope you don't mind Brian.

AjaxCFC
Version 1.0 Released
Rob Gonda released AjaxCFC version 1.0 on RIAForge.
This release also includes log4javascript integration for enhanced debugging.
  Rob also updated the Model-Glue
and Mach II branches of ajaxCFC.

CFRails
Initial Release
This project by Sam Larbi, and hosted at RIAForge,
is intended to be a port of some Ruby on Rails functionality into ColdFusion.
The initial release focuses on automating CRUD operations.

Model-Glue Vs Model-Glue:Unity

Jared gives a good in site to the differences between Model-Glue Vs Model-Glue:Unity - which basically isn't a great deal. Action packs are big news which he explains as being <include/> functionality.
If you're unsure if you should use MG:U then check this post out. He also does a good job of talking about 'extendable built-in events' - these, for examples, allow you to add events at the start/end of request like onRequest Start in application.cfc.

Reactor update

Dougs back with a great round up to the updates that have happened to Reactor. Beth Bowen has been helping with a lot of bugs and Doug has been working on Performance. With a trimmed down CFC collection and the removal of a base abstract object made some differences but the thing to make the difference was the introduction of a OO query facade. Read Dougs blog for full details.

It's been rather a busy couple of weeks for Frameworks, a few new releases/updates.
It's becoming an exciting time. Fusebox 5 and Lexicons will be
shown off at cfDevcon next Thursday. If you want to win a ticket for cfDevcon

Remember that there is a cfFrameworks
mailing list - it's a little quite at the moment but thats how some like
  it I guess.

Interviews

Here at cfFrameworks.com we are looking
to interview frameworks masters - if you are involved in any frameworks please
contact us so we can setup an interview - to everyone else watch this space
for the interview to come live.

OnAir

On Remote
Synthesis: ColdFusion Open-Source Update - October 16 Brian got informed
about a new Framework called onAir.:

New Project: onAir Application Framework
Initial Release
Jan
Jannek sent me this link to his new framework which he deems a "smart
connection framework" which is intended to simplify connecting back-end
business logic with rich front-ends built in Ajax, Flex or Laszlo. From
his email, it "provides different Request Handlers (XML, XML-RPC, JSON,
etc.) which can be accessed from various clients" and even has a "caching and monitoring mechanism which caches method invocation results and keeps track of method callers." Sounds like this might be worth
checking out via his svn repository at https://svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/onair/.

This is the first of many. We aim to bring you all the news relating to frameworks.

fusebox5 reference

Michael Traher generated some fusebox5 reference
docs from the DTDs provide with fusebox 5.

Social

Joe has made a video showing off how you can
customise the code (scaffolds) created by Model-Glue unity. With
his customisation he plugs in some AJAX.

CFCDoc back up and running

Jared's has got the cfcDoc engine back up and running: http://www.cfobjective.com/cfcdoc/ with

Doug gave a presentation to the Toronto CFUG on Reactor including:

    * A quick review of ORM techniques

Coldbox domain names

Coldbox buys up framework domains www.coldboxframework.com
and www.coldboxframework.org. Luis Majano also says that
there is a Trac site to come.
It sounds like there are a few changes in the "about to
be released" version. Pop over to Luis' blog for more

AutoWiring in Model-Glue unity

Nondo starts to clear some of the mystery of AutoWiring
in Model-Glue unity. This article also shows good use
of Coldspring. If you're new to either this is
a good read, if you're not this is still a good read.

Frameworks don't suck

Joe Rinehart gives his option about frameworks
not sucking after Peter Bell decided to give the Frameworks pot
                a good stir.

What's nice about this post is its explanation of how Model-Glue
Unity can live quite easily without Reactor and Coldspring. This
can be a little overwhelming to people thinking about learning
MG:U.as you may think that you have to learn 3 frameworks in
one hit. (of course without Reactor Scaffolds are out)
